The US Open, which takes place at the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing Meadows, New York, typically runs for two weeks and features some of the biggest names in tennis competing to win the last Grand Slam event of the year. This year, there are some big changes at the tournament, including a new schedule for mixed doubles and a move to Sunday opening days for the main draw. Nicole Kankam, managing director of pro tennis marketing and entertainment for the USTA, joined “Mornings On 1” to preview what’s in store for this year.
The 2025 US Open begins on Sunday, August 24 and runs through Labor Day, September 7. This year’s competition is set to include 15 days of main draw play – an increase of six from previous years. The USTA is also expanding the number of women’s matches, adding a day for night sessions and shifting to a Thursday start for the semifinals for the first time.
As the competition reaches its final stages, the field of 128 men and women will begin to dwindle down until only a few of the best remain. The first round of qualifying is held Monday, August 18 through Thursday, August 21, and is free to the public. This is a great opportunity for fans to watch rising stars and see some of the biggest names in tennis training before the main draw kicks off.
The 2025 US Open begins with the first rounds of singles on Sunday, August 24, followed by the second and third rounds of both the men’s and women’s events. The tournament then moves into the quarterfinals, semifinals and championships on Friday, September 5, Saturday, September 6, and Sunday, September 7.
